Financial prosperity barometer

9 out of 10 Romanians consider that they have a prosperous situation. They associate prosperity with good health for themselves and their families and a good and stable job.

According to a recent market study on the link between financial services and prosperity, nine out of ten Romanians consider themselves prosperous, given that they associate prosperity with good health for themselves and their families and a good and stable job.

 

According to the same study, worldwide, only 75% of respondents consider themselves prosperous. When it comes to the portrait of a prosperous person, at national level, he should be healthy, have a secure and well-paid job, a loving family, own a home and be able to provide a good education for children.

 

16% of Romanians feel confused about financial issues

 

Study entitled Financial Prosperity Barometer. Perceptions about Prosperity in Emerging Countries, developed by PayU – the fintech and online payments division of Prosus, a global online group owned by Naspers, reveals that Romanians are quite in control of the financial situation. In comparison, in other emerging countries such as Turkey, Greece or Poland, 21%, 24% and 26% of the target population, respectively, feel confused about the financial aspects. At the opposite pole is Hungary, where only 10% of respondents see the financial aspects as confusing.

 

When it comes to the current financial situation of the Romanian household, they “manage”, but they are also among the most optimistic.

 

Asked how they categorize the current financial situation of the household, 58% of Romanian respondents said that it is comfortable, placing them in the first place among the emerging European countries where the study was conducted. At the same time, 56% of Romanian respondents are optimistic about the future, considering that the financial condition of the household will improve in the next 12 months. In first place are the Turks, where 64% of respondents are optimistic about the future, while at the opposite pole is Greece, where only 30% of respondents see a better future.

 

6 out of 10 Romanians believe that financial services can help them plan for a more prosperous future

 

More than 56% of Romanians surveyed see financial services as a solution that helps them be more prosperous in the future, and 50% believe that you cannot be prosperous if you do not have access to financial services. At the same time, 56% of them said that more people’s access to financial services also brings prosperity to the country. When it comes to how Romanians use financial services, the interviewed Romanians choose them to deposit money (47%) and to receive or send money (47%). For Romanians, receiving and sending money is also seen as a way to keep in touch with loved ones, having a strong emotional impact. At the level of the emerging European countries included in the study, financial services are seen as a way to save and raise money for the future.

 

75% of Romanians surveyed believe that the government should do more to facilitate access to financial services

 

About 5 out of 10 Romanians said that access to financial services helped them become more prosperous. When it comes to who should contribute to facilitating access to financial services, over 75% of Romanians believe that they should fall within the government’s remit.
